The things people ask a clipboard manager — answered straight. Still curious? The support page has more.
Privacy & security
Not to us. Your history is encrypted and stored on your devices. Geesoft runs no servers and collects no data. If you turn on optional iCloud sync, it travels only through your own iCloud to keep your devices in step — still never to us. The other optional exception — looking up titles for copied links — is off by default and only contacts the link's own website.
No. Items marked concealed by password managers are skipped automatically, and you can add any app to an ignore list so Magpie never reads from it while that app is in front.
Clip contents are sealed with AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption (Apple's CryptoKit). The key is generated on your device and lives in your Keychain; with iCloud sync on, it is shared only between your own devices through your iCloud Keychain, and never sent to us. The history sits in each app's sandbox container — on the Mac, under Application Support.
Exactly what it says. Magpie has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no Geesoft backend — so there is nothing for us to collect, even if we wanted to. Optional iCloud sync syncs to your own iCloud, which Apple handles on your behalf and we never see — so the label still holds. Full details are in the privacy policy.
Using Magpie
Magpie copies the clip you pick to your clipboard; you paste it with ⌘V. As a sandboxed Mac App Store app it deliberately never types into other apps — that's the privacy-safe design, and it means Magpie needs no Accessibility permission.
Press ⌘⇧V from any app, click the bird icon in your menu bar, or tap the floating button. There's no main window — Magpie is a menu-bar app. A first-run Welcome tour points out where everything lives.
⌘⌥1 through ⌘⌥9 copy your most-recent clips to the clipboard from anywhere — without even opening the window. Then paste with ⌘V. Every shortcut, including these, is rebindable in Settings → Hotkeys.
If you point it at a folder, yes — screenshots saved there are added to your history, and screenshots copied straight to the clipboard are captured automatically. It watches a folder you choose; it does not record your screen and uses no Screen Recording permission.
Five handcrafted themes — Dark, Light, Twilight, Solarized, and Nord — plus a 13-colour accent palette, all in Settings → Appearance.
Yes — a universal companion app for iPhone and iPad, included in the same purchase. It shows the same history and lets you save text, links and images through the iOS Share Sheet or a tap in the app. (iOS can't read the clipboard in the background, so saving on iPhone or iPad is always something you choose to do.)
Yes, with optional iCloud sync. It's off by default; turn it on in Settings and your history stays in step across your devices through your own iCloud account. It's still end-to-end encrypted, never reaches Geesoft, and is private to you — not shared with anyone else. Recognised text from images (OCR) stays on each device and is never synced.
Pricing & requirements
No. Magpie is $9.99, once — no subscription, no in-app purchases, no accounts. Every feature is unlocked the moment you open it: a deep history, all eight clip types, search, filters, pinning, hotkeys, OCR, iCloud sync, five themes and 13 accent colours. One purchase covers your Mac, iPhone and iPad.
The Mac app needs macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple silicon or Intel, and installs from the Mac App Store. The iPhone and iPad companion installs from the App Store at no extra cost. To share one history across devices, you'll want optional iCloud sync turned on.
Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We'd also genuinely like to know what went wrong — tell us.
